| Audition Information |
The North State Chorale is a
performing choral ensemble comprised of amateur choristers. Nevertheless,
the ensemble maintains a standard of excellence at the professional
level. The Chorus is frequently invited to perform with professional
orginazations in the area, and has sung major works in Latin, Italian,
German, French, and Hebrew.
Membership in the North State Chorale is by audition only. Previous
choral singing experience is helpful but not necessary. Certain skills
are considered necessary of one to function as a contributing member
of a performing orgainzation.
- Ability to read music and sing on pitch
- Ability to sing a part other than the melody (harmony)
- Commitment to regular rehearsal attendance
- Availability to sing all performances during the concert season
- Willingness to work with others and take direction
- Enthusiasm for male choral singing at the professional level
Auditions are scheduled when necessary, and are administered in the
following manner:
- The prospective member joins the North State
Chorale in one 2-hour rehearsal
- The Artistic Director consults with the section leaders after
the rehearsal
- The prospective member sings privately for the Artistic Director,
who tests the following:
·Accuracy
of pitch
·Proper
tone production
·Sight-reading
ability
·Aural skills
The prospective member need not sing a prepared song, but he may do
so if he feels it would show his voice to the best effect.
The Artistic Director, who makes the determination as to membership,
contacts the prospective member regarding the outcome of the audition. |
